- Pray first. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in preparing your line-up song list. This is the first and most important thing to do.
- List praise and worship songs that are singable. Avoid songs that have very high or very low pitch. Remember to set the key to the comfortable range of men and women.
- Do not include too many new songs in your line-up list. People come to church not to spend most of their time learning new songs but to worship.
- Include a variety of new and old songs in your line-up list. As much as possible, pick songs that fit for all ages, especially if your congregation is a mixed type.
- Plan worship songs that complement the pastor's sermon.
- Choose opening songs that are lively or that call people to worship so their focus will turn immediately toward God.
- Pick songs that can blend with one another to create continuous experience during worship.
- Place slower or reflective songs before the sermon to set the congregation into listening mood.
- As much as possible, choose songs you can lead.
